Two short notes before your departure:

1. Do not forget about vignette system that was introduced in Slovenia about a month ago.

2. It is not possible to register and take start numbers for individuals, but only for the whole clubs! Thanks for understanding.

Here is the map of Ajdovscina with Competition Center marked on it. We shall mark the route to the CC from the main street in town. Besides that, there are already regular road signs in Ajdovscina, which are showing the way to "SPORT CENTER POLICE". A part of this center is also the Student dormitory Veno Pilon, where the actual CC office will be placed.

CC will be open on 21st from 16:00 and on 22nd from 9:00 to 22:00.

And here you can see the place of the 1st stage, in case you are coming straight to it.

First starts on all 5 days is at 10:00.

Here you can find the course lengths for all stages except the 3rd one, which will be something between Sprint and Middle on a 1:5000 map. We made a change in programme - the mentioned stage will not be run in Ajdovscina but in Mala Lazna where the first 2 stages will be held as well. Hubelj map, initially planned for 3rd stage, will be used for training. We took this decision after some discussion among organizers and mappers. The conclusion was the area in Lazna will be much more enjoyable for runners - mostly due to technical challenges, but also for some other reasons, like notably lower temperatures in summer (at the same time when in rough open area in Ajdovscina is +35 degrees, up in shady forests of Mala Lazna can be pleasent 27 degrees).

Here is questionary made by our speaker Wolfgang Poetsch. All of you are invited to write a few words about yourselves and then send the questionary to Googi (email adress is in the file). Thanks!

The period of sleepless nights has started ... Good night :).

ORGANIZED TRANSPORT NOTE
All the participants who ordered bus transport to the stages should have received an email notice from us. We asked for the place of accommodation so that we can plan the route and the timetable of our bus. Thanks for your fast answer. The list of ordered transport by clubs can be seen here. Please check it out if you think you should be on the list.

SI CARDS NUMBERS
As right now there seem to be over 150 runners without SI card numbers, we kindly ask you that, in case you have your own SIcard, you write the number down as soon as possible, using the Online entries system. In case we do not get your numbers we will have to charge the rental (we must pay for it as well). Thanks for understanding.

IMPORTANT NOTE!
The 2nd deadline should be behind us now, but it's not exactly so. As some of you might have noticed, in the evening from 1st of June to 2nd of June we have lost some entries (about 10?). This is because our server went down and the backups are autumatically generated once per 24 hours. Unfortunately, this inconvenience happened in a bad moment - around the deadline conclusion, when some of you made entries. We apologize for this.

So, we would like to ask you to check for your name/group and if you are not on the list and you think you should be, please re-submitt your entry. Needless to say, the normal entry fee will apply for everyone who enters in the next days (the amounts on the list will be corrected later).

If you have any questions regarding this or any other matter, don't hesitate to contact us at: orienteeringonline.cup AT gmail.com . If it is easier for you, you can even re-send your entries to that adress instead of using Online system.

Once again, sorry for the little mess.

Yesterday we received the map file from the Czech mappers from their last visit in Mala Lazna. They were working on a part which will be used for 2nd stage, Long distance at OO.cup.
When asked about the impressions from the terrain, one of them said: " 'TOTAL BRUTAL!' ..... and only for real orienteers.", and the other two agreed in laughter :). Well, this statement quite confirms the description in the Stages section ... It will be the most difficult race of OO.cup for few reasons - stones, steepness and, of course, technical difficulty.

Mala Lazna, 2nd day - only longer courses will cross this particular part.

In the meantime we worked on a project that has nothing to do with orienteering, but it somehow started with it. In November a photo book about Velika planina will be published by organizer of OO.cup. This might be interesting for those who were at OO.cup last year or those who would like to come next year. So, you're welcome to check: Velika planina!

Horrible April we could call this period. In last 14 days mappers had only 2 days without any rain. Nevertheless, "Foldi & Nagy mapping band", managed to map some new sq meters (not kilometers, unfortunately) of very interesting terrain. In the southern part of the map we even had some surprises in form of very stony ground and dense ground forms. So the last stage might not be so fast as initially expected, afterall. As it seems right now, in Men Elite class the winning speed on 4th stage will be around 6min/km and on the last stage probably around 7.5min/km ...
The really nice point of this map is that it will be very white. There are practically no green or yellow areas and the visibility in most places is simply superb. The path network is of medium density, but it is important for ambitious runners to be aware of the fact that many of the footpaths are rather hard to see and sometimes even difficult to follow at high speed.

Then, there is still another good point of this area - it is full of Bear's garlic.. So, we eat this plant constantly and that might be the reason we're still healthy in these rainy days. Perhaps our breath is so bad that even bacteria won't come close to us ...

Perhaps a bit slower than initially expected. But still fast for a Slovenian karst area.

On 27th the 3 Czech mappers are coming again to Mala Lazna and then we will write more about that terrain.

So, the 1st deadline is behind us. We are, of course, happy with the number of competitors and especially with the fact that many runners who came last year are also coming this year! This must be a good sign :)!

All competiors/clubs who entered the race before the first deadline have received the bank transfer information by email. In case you haven't received this message and you think you should have, contact us! As written in the email, all the runners entered in first deadline should make payments before 31st March, otherwise they will have to be regarded as second deadline entrants!

The next deadline is on 1st of June. Competitors entering in the next deadline can pay the fees either in advance or at the event on their arrival.

The hostel at the event center is fully booked. No more bookings are possible until further notice.

Lately, the weather in Slovenia has been strange, to say at least. Sun, warmth, snow, cold, rain, wind, sun, fog, snow, sun ... just about all you can imagine.

BTW, did you know that almost 60% of Slovenia is covered with forests? Two shots taken these days ...

And during these strange days we hosted the French national team on training camp, with all their best runners, Gueorgiou, Renard, Gonon, Dodin etc. They have tried quite a few different areas, amongst others they also trained on some OO.cup terrain! Unfortunately, this also means they will not be here in summer ...

14. 02. 2008
The first deadline is approaching fast (1st March). Regarding the frequent question that we receive by email - all runners/clubs enrolled within the 1st deadline will be invoiced by email in March.

We realized that users of Microsoft Internet Explorer were unable to see the main banner of this page. This is now corrected. Sorry, you had to watch the big black square for so long :) ...

Terrain of stages 4 & 5. For sure one of the fastest mapped karst areas in Slovenia.

Mapping in December!

Tempo of updating this page has ceased a little bit in the last weeks, but that doesn't mean nothing is happening with OO.cup. On contrary, our main mapper, Istvan Foldi, has arrived recently to Slovenia and is now working on the Blatnice map. He enjoys the work quite a lot, partly due to very nice open forest and partly because of good speed of work that we have. FINALLY, we are really lucky with the base map and the work goes unbelievably fast comparing to what we were doing for 2007 edition of OO.cup. So, a map sample and a snapshot from terrain ...

Orgasmic-O!

Martin has finished the first round of mapping. When asked about his 10 days experience in Mala Lazna terrain, he said: "The terrain is really beautiful and mapping there is like ...I don't know ... Like some kind of orgasmic mapping!"

Well, if a mapper enjoys it so much, we're quite confident that you will like it as well! Here are some samples of our brand new area:

A little more of Mala Lazna ...

In the next round a group of Czech mappers is coming and almost at the same time we expect our main mapper, the one and the only Istvan Foldi! Hopefully the snow comes as late as possible in Primorska region.

As you can see the last link on the left menu, we have opened the OO.cup forum. Feel free to use it!

24. 09. 2007

Martin Lejsek has arrived to Slovenia and started with mapping of Mala Lazna area. Weather forecast is not the most favorable for the next days, but still we hope that Martin will be able to work well. As soon as we get some new map samples we will publish them for you to see.

Martin has lots of experience with karst terrains, as he has made quite some square kilometers in Slovenia and was one of the mappers on the legendary map Stonah (used for OO.cup in 2002, 2003 and 2006), which was one of the most difficult maps mapped in our country. He has also helped with last years' OO.cup.

Hello!
Some information for OO.cup/08 is added to the subpages! You can now get a picture about the terrain (link stages) and the area where the races will be held (link whereabouts). We will update the page regularly adding new map samples, pictures and some interesting information about the race and things more or less connected with it.

We have started with mapping in August. A little part was done and the rest will be mapped this autumn and next spring. The mappers' team is the same as last year: Istvan Foldi, Martin Lejsek, Zdenek Sokolar, Honza Drbal, Roman Horky and Ivan Nagy.

So stay tuned for more and see you next year in Slovenia!
